‘Sanctity Extended’ is the embodiment of five actions, reflecting on sacred patterning in systems. The exhibition opens with the activation of sculptural works carried in procession from the New Orleans Healing Center along the neutral ground of St. Claude Ave. joining the complete exhibition at Barristers Gallery.
Departing from a trinity of works, ‘Introspection,’ ‘Resilience, ’ and ‘Devotion’ revolve around the ritual of Ex-Voto Anatomici, an action petitioning for intervention or gratitude in offering of figural representation. The project speaks to sacred space being different for each individual, while the constant is in the sanctity extended at the site.
“Intimate works explore scale and narration. Works on paper are divided into acts of petitioning for gratitude of human form or an expression for intervention. ‘Sanctity Extended’ entwines the roots of my classic foundation in figuration and ritual. Concluding with a conversation on the meaning and significance of sacred space.” Kristin Meyers
